Kenyans will now join, leave and verify their political party membership status in accordance with the new USSD code by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP). The code is *509#.

The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties allowed citizens to verify their political party membership status. This can be done by texting a code or visiting the ORPP website.

The USSD code *509# now allows one to register or even resign as a member and join any other different political party.

When dialing the code, they will be required to enter their details; Identification number and first name. They will then be approved after verification. After that, they will be able to register, resign or even check your status with the political party.

Political formations in a given country are legal entities with their rights and responsibilities. As such, each establishment has its own criteria and latitude to decide what must be satisfied to become a delegate. Eligibility for membership is stipulated in the constitution of the political party.

Many Kenyans found themselves registered as members of different political parties without their consent. In a bid to have Kenyans among their members, political parties have used unscrupulous means to register Kenyans, including buying data.

Any person who must participate in the nomination process and must be registered in their respective political party to which they belong.

The IPPMS has been integrated into the E-citizen platform and is accessible free of charge according to the Registrar of Political Parties and among others intended to manage and maintain the database of political party records

According to ICT statistics, almost 100% of Kenyans have access to mobile phones and can therefore access services.
