Karachi: No major political parties have nominated their candidates for the upcoming by-election in Karachi constituency NA-245, the nomination deadline is tomorrow, ARY News reported.
However, a total of 70 applications were submitted.
According to the details, a total of 70 candidates filed their documents for the by-elections in NA-245 but no major political party nominated their candidates for the elections.
The deadline for submitting applications is June 24, 2022.
The seat had been vacated following the death of televangelist and PTI MP Aamir Liaquat Hussain.
Aamir Liaquat Hussain of the PTI had won the 2018 general election on NA-245, obtaining 56,615 votes. The runner-up candidate was MQM-P veteran Farooq Sattar who received 35,247 votes.
PTI leader and former Sindh Governor Imran Ismail had announced that the party would contest the NA-245 election, pointing out that all political parties, including the MQM, had been rejected by the citizens.
The initial list of candidates will be published by the ECP on June 25, while the review of applications will take place until June 27. The decision of the returning officers will be contestable until June 30.

The final list of candidates will be published on July 5, while candidates can withdraw their candidacy until July 6, 2022. The ECP will authorize symbols to candidates by July 7 and the ballot would take place on July 27.
